"It has been discussed for a long time, but recent events in the region have accelerated the process," a source told AFP.
Last year, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan signed an agreement in which the two countries promised to defend each other in the event of an attack. Since then, talks on cooperation have also been held with Turkey.
It is not yet known in detail what the possible agreement would entail. The leaders of the countries are due to meet in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Friday.
