The author, playwright and screenwriter says she is "honored."
"These awards are extremely important and are becoming even more so as culture is dismantled. I would like to take this opportunity to express a wish for a future cultural policy that does not come with empty words but uses concrete means to ensure that culture and popular education flourish in our elongated country," Bergmark Elfgren says in a press release.
The prize, worth 113,000 kronor, was established in 1999 and is awarded every two years to authors, mainly children's and young adult authors, who live in Sweden and write prose.
