Sara Andersson's Stunning Biathlon Gold Triumph on Home Soil

Sara Andersson, 22, was half a minute behind the leaders before the final shooting in the mass start at the Junior World Championship in biathlon. But after a masterful finish, where her competitors shot themselves out of contention, she was able to bring home the gold on home turf in Östersund.

It tastes damn good. So cool to finish my junior years in this way. My sixth World Championship and my sixth individual medal. Such a fine finish to do it on home soil, says Andersson to SVT with tears in her eyes.

Before the final shot, Andersson was a bit behind the leaders. But all seven shooters ahead of the 22-year-old shot themselves out – and the talent could thus secure the World Championship gold.

The shooting conditions throughout the competition were difficult, and on the first standing shot, Andersson remained on the shooting range for one minute and ten seconds.

My legs just shook and the wind took the rifle. I just fought and fought and am glad I managed to get three hits there.

This was Andersson's second medal in Östersund after a silver in the sprint.

Earlier this winter, she made her debut in the World Cup, including a victory in the relay in Kontiolahti in December.
