Sandra Näslund had a good idea of the situation ahead of the competitions in Gällivare. She needed 26 points to take home the overall victory in the World Cup.
And the 29-year-old did that by making it to the final.
There she secured another 74 points, winning ahead of German Daniela Maier and Canadian Hannah Schmidt.
"It's just perfect. Having family here, friends that I didn't even know would come here... Just perfect," says Näslund.
"Fasiken, how nice"
The victory also means that the star has made history as she has accumulated more World Cup points than anyone else before. With 1,168, she surpasses her 2021–2022 total of 1,150.
"What a thing, damn, how nice," she says.
"It's been a really good season and with extra support in place, it's doing its job too."
National teammate Linnea Mobärg, who came fourth, was impressed by Näslund's success.
"Are you kidding?"
"She continues to impress. I'm not shocked. It's great that she keeps getting better and taking... Is that your second 'globe'?"
Näslund:
Fifth.
"Fifth? Are you kidding? That's impressive. I hope I'll be like Sandra one day," Mobärg tells Viaplay.
The Winter Games in Italy were Sandra Näslund's goal for the season, and when she took bronze in Livigno - that's when she broke down.
The tears never stopped flowing, and Näslund repeatedly told reporters in the small ski village that the comeback from two serious injuries, which ruined a couple of seasons, made third place feel like a great success.
At the same time, she has always made the World Cup her top priority, for two clear reasons:
In the World Cup, it's about being the best over a longer period of time; in the Olympics, the medal race is decided on a single day.
In Gällivare, Näslund was the best again.
On the men's side, David Mobärg took the victory.
"I've been waiting for this for two years. It's been a struggle. This victory means so much," he says.
