The 18-year-old is coming off a strong season in Frölunda, the World Junior Championship and the senior World Championships. He is the fourth Swede ever to finish second.
Also present at the draft was his older brother Otto Stenberg, who plays for the NHL's St. Louis Blues.

The number one pick in the draft was Canadian favorite Gavin McKenna, selected by Toronto. Announcing the first pick was fellow countryman and pop star Justin Bieber.
In total, seven Swedes were drafted in the first round - not since 2009 has the number been so high.
Viggo Björck was selected eighth overall by Winnipeg. There was speculation beforehand that the Swede would be selected by Buffalo with the fourth pick, but Canadian Daxon Rudolph took that spot.
Alexander Command and Malte Gustafsson were also drafted in the first round at 12th and 13th place, respectively. Command was selected by New Jersey and Gustafsson by the New York Islanders. Furthermore, Elton Hermansson was selected at number 19 and ended up in Los Angeles.
Jonas Lagerberg Hoen was selected 25th overall by the Ottawa Senators. Marcus Nordmark was also drafted in the first round, 28th overall, by the Anaheim Ducks.
