The runner Samuel Pihlström set a Swedish record on 1,500 meters during the Diamond League gala in Rome. Pihlström ran in at a time of 3.30,87 – over a second faster than Andreas Almgren's previous record of 3.32,00 – and finished fifth in the race.
I'm almost a little touched, I've worked hard for this, says Pihlström to SVT.
His previous personal record was 3.33,58.
I'm incredibly proud that I can keep up with the top, I've never run so offensively.
Frenchman Azeddine Habz won with a time of 3.29,72.
Corrected version: In an earlier version, Pihlström was given the wrong placement in the race.
