She began writing the text after the al-Assad regime's fall in Syria, and describes the process as "the beginning of a return from exile". Now, a few fragments from it are being performed in a staged reading at Dramaten.doc, which gives voice to playwrights, authors, and actors in conflict-ridden areas.
"Theater scene called hell" is being performed on the Small Stage on April 29.
Samar Yazbek was born in 1970 in Jable, Syria. She is known for books such as "Journey into the Void", but also has a past as a screenwriter for Syrian film and TV. She was forced to leave Syria in 2011 but has secretly returned several times.
Dramaten.doc was launched in 2023 under the leadership of Dmitri Plax.
