The song "Rein me in" has been at the top of the British charts for 19 weeks. This breaks Frankie Lane's record from 1953, when his "I Believe" was at the top for 18 weeks.
Despite that, not all Britons seem to have heard "Rein me in" - and a debate has arisen over whether chart positions can still function as a unifying national culture in England.
Filter bubbles and streaming services have put an end to "monoculture," one expert tells The Guardian, while another argues that it is certainly possible to rally around a song on a broad front - if it becomes a social media phenomenon or is picked up by the media.
