In an interview with Fortune, Altman says the company is currently focusing on security-related issues regarding the technology and that it would be “unwise” to pursue a public offering at the same time. This will instead happen next year.
I believe that at this point we are entering a new era and that we probably have to - just as we have done before when we have entered new eras - act differently in order to ensure that we are doing something that benefits all of humanity, he says, pointing out significant risks in the current developments in the field that he sees.
The announcement comes after Altman, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and entrepreneur and billionaire Elon Musk all warned that AI development must be slowed down.
