Changing street names with Nazi connections has been a long process in Austria. In Salzburg, a name change in April last year was described as one of the first of its kind.
This year, Josef Thorak Street will also be renamed Helene von Taussig Street, according to a report from the municipality that is expected to be put to a vote by the city council.
Next year, the street names Hans Pfitzner and Erich Schenk will be changed to Anna Reindl and Elsa Bienenfeld. The streets Gustav Resatz and Erich Landgrebe will also be renamed.
More famous names will have to wait. Herbert von Karajan and Ferdinand Porsche, world-famous Austrians who were members of the Nazi Party, are mentioned in the municipality's report. But removing their names is expected to meet more resistance.
