Sales of battery-electric cars rose 20 percent to 188,674 in May for the Shenzhen-based company, while the company's sales of plug-in hybrid cars rose 13 percent to 178,316.
During the first five months of the year, January–May, BYD's sales fell 20 percent to 1.41 million cars compared with the same period last year.
