Sabalenka Withdraws from Montreal Tournament to Focus on US Open

It is in my interest to skip Montreal, says Sabalenka in a statement from the organizer.

The Belarusian recently fell in the semifinal of Wimbledon against Amanda Anisimova, who later was defeated by Iga Swiatek in the final.

The idea was that Sabalenka would play on the hard court in Montreal on July 27 - but that will not be the case.

Sabalenka is not alone in canceling her participation in Montreal. Also world number one Paula Badosa has been forced to say no, in her case due to a back injury.

US Open in New York begins on August 24.
