The reigning champion Aryna Sabalenka, Belarus, is ready for the semifinal in the US Open – without having had to hit a ball.
Hours before the quarterfinal, Marketa Vondrousova, Wimbledon winner 2023, withdrew due to injury.
World number one Sabalenka will face fourth-seeded Jessica Pegula, USA, in the semifinal on Thursday. It will be a rematch of last year's final which Sabalenka won in two straight sets.
