Saab has long been working on the development of an unmanned aircraft, which in the future will interact with manned aircraft systems such as the Jas Gripen and drones.

Now the model of an unmanned system, called A3-001, was displayed at the Swedish Armed Forces' anniversary flight days.

"We are in an intensive development phase where, together with Sweden, we are exploring technologies that will lay the foundation for the next generation of combat aircraft systems," says Peter Nilsson, business unit manager at Saab, in a press release.

The concept is intended for high-risk missions such as electronic warfare, air defence countermeasures and precision operations in areas with strong air defences.

The ambition is for test flights to take place before 2030.
