The defence group Saab and the Swedish solar energy company Midsummer have signed a memorandum of understanding on a long-term partnership in Thailand.

The intention is to find activities for industrial cooperation in Thailand, with a focus on solar energy manufacturing and solar energy technology.

"In Thailand, the parties have jointly identified opportunities in establishing a "mega factory" of 200 MW for the production of thin-film solar cells using Midsummer's own developed technology and production equipment," writes Midsummer in a press release.

The agreement is signed since it emerged in August that the Thai air force recommended that the Thai government choose the Gripen fighter jet – a Saab product – in a procurement.
