The Defense's two new submarines from the manufacturer Saab are delayed and more expensive. The price has risen from 14 to 25 billion kronor, reports Ekot on Sveriges Radio.

The delivery, previously promised for 2027–2028, is now expected to take place in 2031 and 2033.

At the bottom, it's about the fact that the manufacturing has taken longer than what the shipyard had calculated from the beginning. Then I also want to emphasize that it's about an incredibly complex project, associated with great technical and economic risks, says Fredrik Lindén at the Defence Materiel Administration (FMV), which has ordered the submarines, to the radio.

Saab states at the same time in a press release that the company has received a supplementary order for submarine material and services from FMV, worth approximately 9.6 billion kronor. The order concerns the two submarines of the so-called Blekinge class.
