S also wants the government to call for defense consultations with the other parties immediately.
"We have an ongoing war in Ukraine and have allocated large amounts of money that we have not signed into the budget. The sooner we can specify further plans, the better," says the party's defense policy spokesperson Peter Hultqvist (S).
The increase could be realized by relaxing the rules for the training of officers so that they can be responsible for conscripts after just two years of study and not, as is the case today, after three years.
Another measure is to bring in Swedish-speaking officers from Finland. That would require a special agreement.
It would be further proof of the strength of the Swedish-Finnish relationship, says Hultqvist.
In the long term, the party wants 20,000 conscripts to be trained each year.
S also wants to see the Armed Forces consist of 40 percent women in the long term, compared to today's 25 percent.
The number of brigades should also increase from four to six after 2030, according to Hultqvist. He also wants to establish territorial defense units within the army that can protect transport between countries, for example if troops or equipment are being moved from Norway, via Sweden, to Finland.
