Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) comments on the US capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. He says it is clearly a violation of international law.

In the Riksdag's EU Committee, Kristersson notes that what has happened recently is remarkable. At the same time, he emphasizes that this is about a president who was illegitimate and "no one will miss."

Kristersson also reiterates his support for Denmark and Greenland. He says he has almost daily contact with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.

We are concerned about the rhetoric the US is using against Denmark and Greenland, as this does not make allies out of colleagues, says Kristersson.

Up to Denmark

But the Prime Minister warns against drawing hasty conclusions from the statements from the American side at this stage. He thinks it is good that Danish and American ministers will meet next week.

Kristersson does not want to comment on proposals to, for example, station a European troop in Greenland, but refers to the fact that it is up to Denmark and Greenland to decide what measures should be taken.

We are not doing anything that Denmark does not explicitly ask us to do in this situation.

They don't deserve different countries starting to play it safe on these issues.

Requires party leadership meeting

Social Democrats' party leader Magdalena Andersson wants Ulf Kristersson to call a party leadership meeting about the security situation.

What we are seeing right now is a world order that is shaking to its foundations.

But Ulf Kristersson does not believe it is necessary to convene the party leaders. The parties already receive information from the Foreign Affairs Committee, he points out.

"You must have missed that we have a Foreign Affairs Committee with some intensity these days," he says, pointing out that the last meeting was held on December 22nd.
