Adams began his career in the 1990s with the alternative country band Whiskeytown and later achieved success as a solo artist. His biggest hit is "New York, New York" from his second album, "Gold" (2001).
Adams was accused in 2019 by several women, including ex-wife Mandy Moore and artist Phoebe Bridgers, of sexual harassment, emotional abuse and exploitation in a New York Times op-ed. Adams initially denied many of the allegations but later publicly apologized. He was dropped by his record label, lost his management deal and had to cancel planned album releases.
The singer was never charged, but a federal investigation was launched into allegations that he had been in contact with a minor through chat rooms. The investigation was dropped due to lack of evidence.
"It felt like they wanted me to die," Adams said in 2021 about the period, to LA Magazine.
On Instagram, Adams reposted a screenshot from his booker promising refunds for all canceled shows. The post also states that “Ryan is OK and working hard on completing his album trilogy, new music coming soon.”
