Sources within the Rwandan government and with connections to the International Automobile Federation (FIA) told AFP that an agreement had been reached.
Neither the government nor the FIA has confirmed the information, but an official announcement is expected next week.
Rwanda applied to host a Formula 1 race in December 2024, and the country has invested heavily in sporting events in recent years, often through Visit Rwanda.
Visit Rwanda is an organization that works to strengthen the country’s tourism sector, including through partnerships with several major football clubs, such as Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal.
The last F1 race in Africa was held in South Africa 31 years ago.
