This means, among other things, that Russia will not be allowed to have any teams in the ice hockey tournaments in the Olympic Games.

"The IOC's board recommendation from March 2023, regarding teams with athletes holding Russian passports, remains in place," says the International Olympic Committee in a statement according to an article on Reuters' website.

Russia and Belarus have been excluded from large parts of the sports world since the invasion of Ukraine shortly after the 2022 Winter Olympic Games.

In the Olympic Games in Paris, no Russian or Belarusian teams were allowed, however, a few individual athletes did compete. But they were not allowed to wear clothes with their country's colors and no national anthems were played.

The Russian men's team took silver in the ice hockey tournament in Beijing 2022. In connection with the weekend's medal matches in the World Championship in Stockholm, the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) announced that the Russian teams are not welcome in Milan Cortina.

The Swedish line is unchanged and it is and has been that in the current situation, it is unthinkable for us that Russia is participating, said the Swedish Ice Hockey Association's chairman Anders Larsson, who also sits on the IIHF's board, to TT.
