According to the Financial Times, the Russian presidential administration has given the go-ahead to a plan that, among other things, aims to portray Orbán as a "strong leader with global friends."

Reports that Russian agents have been sent to the country's embassy in Hungary to help with the campaign have already angered opposition leader Péter Magyar.

"Viktor Orbán is the first since the Soviet-suppressed Hungarian uprising in 1956 to invite Russians to our country. We demand an immediate end to foreign interference in Hungary's elections," Magyar wrote on X last week.

Parliamentary elections in Hungary will be held on April 12.
