The price to charter an oil tanker has risen to its highest level in five years, Bloomberg reports. The price increase comes as several traders try to avoid Russian oil.

The average price of large oil tankers from the Middle East to China has risen by 576 percent this year and is now at its highest level since the peak of the pandemic in April 2020.

The sharp price rise gained further momentum ahead of the US sanctions against the Russian oil companies Lukoil and Rosneft taking effect on Friday.
