The meeting was made possible by Republican Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna, who has been noted for opposing American aid to Ukraine.
According to the AFP news agency, it involved five members of the Russian lower house, the Duma, who visited Washington.
"As representatives of the world's two nuclear-armed superpowers, we owe our citizens an open dialogue, ideas and open lines of communication," Anna Paulina Luna said in a statement, according to AFP.
The U.S. State Department was forced to lift sanctions on members of the Russian delegation in order for the visit to take place, according to The New York Post.
