The Russian ground offensive has been slowed by the Ukrainian military, according to AFP, which based its assessment on data from the US think tank the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
This is the first time in two and a half years that Russian ground troops have been unable to penetrate deeper into Ukraine. The situation is partly due to the Ukrainian military making breakthroughs and forcing Russian soldiers to retreat along parts of the front line.
Russian shelling continued in several locations in Ukraine on Thursday. One man was killed when a drone hit a civilian car in Kherson, and north of Kyiv, one person died in a rocket attack.
