The International Fencing Federation lifted all restrictions on Russian and Belarusian athletes in early June. Previously, fencers from those countries were allowed to compete under neutral status, but the World Championships in Hong Kong are the first at which fencers will be allowed to compete under their own flag.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) lifted all restrictions on Russia and Belarus on July 7, allowing athletes from the countries to participate as usual at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
World federations for swimming, gymnastics and wrestling, for example, have also relaxed their restrictions.
