According to the Russian newspaper Kommersant, Tkachuk's car exploded in a village just outside Yekaterinburg.
“He is in the intensive care unit in serious condition, and doctors are fighting for his life,” the state-run Russian news agency Tass quoted a source in the emergency services as saying.
The assassination attempt is the second against a Russian defense official in a few days. On Saturday, a bomb detonated in a restaurant in Moscow, where General Aleksandr Chayko was reportedly targeted.
Uralvagonzavod is best known for manufacturing the “Upyr” series of first-person-view drones, which Russia uses on the battlefield in Ukraine.
