Ukraine's Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed the death toll on Monday afternoon. The Russian air raids where 352 drones and 16 missiles were directed mainly at the capital region.
Six of the deaths occurred in an apartment building that was hit in the large-scale Russian raid. Survivors were led out by rescue personnel from the house that had started burning.
Over 30 injured
Kyiv's mayor Vitali Klitjko said that at least 33 people were injured in the attack on Kyiv.
In total, five apartment buildings in the capital were hit during the night's attacks, announced Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyj on the platform X. Hospitals and sports facilities were also targets in the Russian attacks.
"Rescue workers are now clearing away the debris and providing help where it is needed".
"Another attack on the capital. Possibly several waves of hostile drones", the military wrote in a statement during the night.
Escalating attacks
In total, 14 deaths were confirmed in Ukraine, reports AP.
One person was killed when a hospital in the city of Bila Tserkva, southwest of Kyiv, was hit in the Russian attack. Fatalities and injuries are also reported from Chernihiv in the northern part of Ukraine.
Volodymyr Zelenskyj emphasized, ahead of Monday's visit to the United Kingdom, the need for a common security in Europe as a basis for Ukraine's defense capabilities.
"We will also negotiate new, powerful steps to increase pressure on Russia", he writes in social media.
Russian military has escalated attacks on Ukraine in recent weeks, and has focused on raids on Kyiv and other major cities. Ukraine's air defense has difficulty fully defending itself against the large-scale attacks.
