Aleksandr Bolshunov was banned from the Olympic Games. The cross-country skiing star appealed too late and will now miss the Games.

This was stated by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

The 29-year-old has appealed the decision that the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) made around Christmas, claiming that he is not neutral regarding Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

CAS said that Bolshunov's appeal falls outside the timeframe of the fast-track court established to handle cases related to the upcoming Winter Games in Italy.

The fast-track court only hears disputes that arise during the Olympics or no later than ten days before the games. Bolshunov filed his appeal on Wednesday, a day late.

Bolshunov won three golds, one silver and one bronze at the Beijing Olympics four years ago.
