The Russian composer and pianist Rodion Shchedrin is dead.
Shchedrin, who is considered one of the most prominent Russian composers of the second half of the 20th century, died on Thursday, 92 years old.
In a press release, the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, which often collaborated with Shchedrin, calls his death "an enormous tragedy" and describes the composer as a "unique phenomenon".
Among Shchedrin's most famous ballets and operas are "Carmen Suite", "Anna Karenina", "The Seagull" and "Lolita".
Rodion Shchedrin was married to the prima ballerina Maya Plisetskaya, who died in 2015.
