More than a hundred drones were targeted and shot down over Voronezh and the surrounding areas, according to Russian Governor Aleksandr Gusev. Many were reportedly shot down over the city itself, which has a population of nearly a million.
Two men on the ground were killed and about ten injured, Gusev wrote on social media. Parts of a downed drone reportedly hit a train, injuring several passengers. Images circulating on more independent Russian and Ukrainian channels show large clouds of smoke from fires in the city.
On Sunday evening, a major attack took place in the Russian border region of Belgorod, where there were also reports of large fires and several fatalities.
