At Least 20 Killed in Russian Attack on Zaporizhia, Including Three Children

The death toll is rising in Zaporizhia, in southern Ukraine, after a Russian attack in the early hours of the morning. At least 20 people have been confirmed dead, according to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service.

Three of the dead are children, according to the authorities. Another 18 people have been injured, including three children. Several people are still missing, and rescue workers are searching for people in the rubble.

"Today, Russia thanked us for lifting sanctions on diesel exports by dropping five bombs on residential buildings in Zaporizhia," Zelenskyy writes, referring to the "deal" reached by Russia's Vladimir Putin and the United States' Donald Trump while a Ukrainian delegation was visiting the United States.

Before the meeting, Ukraine had urged the US to stop favoring Russia economically so that Moscow would be more inclined to end its war of aggression. But as the meeting took place, Trump announced a new business deal with Putin to bring Russian fuel to market.

On Saturday afternoon, the Ukrainian president wrote on X that the signal sent to Russia with the diesel deal "should be corrected."

At least eight people were injured in airstrikes on Kyiv on Saturday, according to the capital's mayor, Vitali Klitschko.

Kyiv was partly without power on Saturday following Russian attacks on the energy supply, the country's largest private electricity company wrote on Telegram.
