Moldova imports electricity from neighboring Romania, mainly via a power line that runs through southern Ukraine. Citizens in the country are being urged to use energy sparingly during peak hours.

"Last night's attacks have disconnected Moldova's most important power connection with Europe. Alternative routes are in place, but the situation remains unstable. Russia bears sole responsibility," writes Moldovan President Maia Sandu on X.

She condemns the Russian attack.

“Russia’s attacks on civilian energy infrastructure in Ukraine are a war crime - and an attack on us all.”

The capital Chisinau and other cities were without power for several hours.
