"A Russian architect led the Ukrainian team into San Siro during the opening ceremony of the Olympics - in secret. I didn't know what to tell them, but I just said that the whole stadium will give them a standing ovation," says Anastasia Kucherova.

Anastasia Kucherova, one of the volunteers at the Olympic opening ceremony, personally asked to join the Ukrainian team.

She wore a long down coat with dark glasses that hid her eyes.

"When you walk next to these people, you realize they have every right to feel hatred toward any Russian. Still, I think it's important to do even a small act to show them that maybe not all people think the same way," said Kucherova.

Kucherova said she understood she was taking a risk by defying the regime. She has lived in Milan for 14 years and has not visited Russia since 2018.
