Russian and Belarusian figure skaters have been suspended from ISU competitions since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
Now they are welcome back, although without national symbols such as the flag and national anthem.
Figure skating thus follows many other sports that allow Russians and Belarusians to compete again, despite the ongoing war of aggression against Ukraine.
However, according to the AP, athletes from these countries may face problems due to visa regulations in countries that host ISU competitions.
In 2027, the World Figure Skating Championships will be held in Finland.
The ISU stresses that the decision "does not affect the ISU's continued condemnation of the war, nor the ISU's continued support for Ukrainian skaters."
Both Russians and Belarusians participated in the Olympics in Milan last winter, as neutrals.
