"Air defense systems shot down eight Atacms rockets and 72 drones," the military announced according to regime-loyal news agencies.
It is not clear if the attack caused any damage.
That Ukraine has been given permission by the US to attack Russia with the advanced weapon Atacms is relatively new. Russian President Vladimir Putin has threatened to launch a hypersonic rocket against central Kyiv if these attacks continue.
