More than a thousand Kenyans are believed to have been recruited to fight in Ukraine, according to Kenya's security services. Some have joined voluntarily, while others say they were tricked or forced into it. The Kenyan government has accused Russia of using these soldiers as cannon fodder on the front lines.
"We have now agreed that Kenyans will not be recruited," Kenyan Foreign Minister Musalia Mudavadi said at a press conference with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov after they met in Moscow on Monday.
Ukraine has stated that nearly 1,800 citizens from 36 African countries are fighting on Russia's side in the war.
