According to independent outlet Meduza, several popular Russian online services, including banking and video streaming apps, are unavailable on Wednesday for many Russian internet users.
AFP reporters in Moscow say they were asked to turn off their VPNs when they tried to visit two major Russian e-commerce platforms, Ozon and Wildberries.
The disruption follows instructions from the Russian government that users who surf via VPN should be blocked.
VPNs allow access to sites that are otherwise blocked, and the use of such services has skyrocketed in Russia in recent years.
