The man who shot and wounded top Russian general Vladimir Alekseev last week had been recruited by Ukraine, Russian security services claim.

General Vladimir Alekseev was shot multiple times in his Moscow apartment on Friday, and taken to hospital with injuries. The Russian security service, the FSB, says the perpetrator acted on orders from Ukraine's SBU security service.

The suspect was arrested in Dubai and handed over to Russia. According to the FSB, he was offered the equivalent of around 270,000 Swedish kronor for the mission.

Several Russian military personnel have been killed on Russian soil during Russia's nearly four-year full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Ukraine has claimed responsibility for some of the killings, but has denied the allegations of the attempted assassination of Alekseev.
