The attack was specifically aimed at the electoral system in Moscow during the ongoing parliamentary elections, which are considered neither free nor fair as the real opposition parties have been banned from participating.

The attack was “powerful” and took place overnight Saturday, according to Ella Pamfilova, chairwoman of Russia’s election commission. She did not go into detail about how the attack was carried out or who is suspected of being behind it.

On Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin accused Ukraine of trying to “obstruct” the election. Kyiv has not responded to the accusations.

Only parties that support Putin and do not question the full-scale war in Ukraine are allowed to participate in the elections.
