Russia is restricting access to the messaging service Telegram, the censorship authority Roskomnadzor announced.

Telegram is accused of not complying with rules requiring foreign platforms to store Russian user data on servers within the country. Therefore, "phased restrictions" will be introduced, Roskomnadzor announced.

The service is also not considered to be doing enough to stop it being used for alleged "criminal and terrorist purposes," state media reports.

Telegram is an important communication channel for both Russia and Ukraine when it comes to information about developments during the war.
