The order on Monday came as a further response to Berlin's decision to close a Russian consulate in Bonn and a cultural institution in Berlin.
The reason for the German decision - and the Russian response - is the German government's accusations that Russia was behind an attempted attack with armed drones that was discovered in early August at Leipzig airport.
The German cultural center, the Goethe Institute, has already been closed. Those who worked at the cultural center must leave the country this week, according to a decision from Moscow.
