Russia has put the former Foreign Minister Andrej Kozyrev on a list of foreign agents, reports The Barents Observer.

As a result, Kozyrev is now considered an enemy of the Russian state – and his civil rights are restricted.

The 74-year-old Kozyrev, who between 1990 and 1996 was the last Soviet foreign minister and the first Russian, is according to the newspaper one of the highest-ranking former Russian officials labeled as a foreign agent.

The Ministry of Justice in Moscow motivates the case by stating that Kozyrev has spread falsehoods about Russia's actions in Ukraine. Kozyrev has repeatedly criticized the Kremlin and Russian warfare – and urged all Russian diplomats to resign in protest.

He currently resides in the USA, writes The Barents Observer.
