The drones were shot down near the city of Podolsk, just south of Moscow, according to Sobjanin. No one has been reported injured in connection with the shooting down.

On Friday, May 9, Russia is holding a military parade on Red Square as part of the country's celebration of the anniversary of World War II. President Vladimir Putin is to give a talk and several world leaders, including China's President Xi Jinping and Brazil's President Luis Ignacio Lula da Silva, are expected to attend.

Ukraine has previously targeted Moscow, but deadly attacks so far from the front line have been rare since Russia launched its full-scale war of aggression against Ukraine. As recently as in March, Russia's Defense Ministry reported that they had shot down 337 drones, including 91 around Moscow, which were part of a massive attack from Ukraine's side.
