Russia claims that its military has taken the city of Selydove in eastern Ukraine.
"As a result of successful operations ... the city of Selydove in the Donetsk region is completely liberated", says the Russian Defense Ministry in a statement.
Russia recently claimed to have taken two nearby villages, Bogoyavlenka and Katerynivka, as well as the small town of Girnyk, which are all located south of Selydove and near the industrial city of Kurakhove, controlled by Ukraine.
Selydove had around 20,000 inhabitants before Russia launched its offensive.
Russia's military has taken 478 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory so far in October, which is the highest figure in a month since the first weeks of the war in March 2022, according to an analysis of data from the American think tank American Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
