In a statement from the Defense Department in Moscow, it is stated that Sudzja and two more settlements in the border region have been "liberated".
Sudzja is located half a mile northeast of the border to Ukraine, along a highway that has been an important supply route for Ukrainian forces since they broke into Russian Kursk in an unexpected offensive last summer.
On Wednesday, among others, the think tank Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported that Russian forces had entered Sudzja from several directions.
