Russia claims on Sunday that it has taken two more towns in southern Ukraine, where it has advanced in recent days in a situation where Kiev is hard pressed in its attempts to hold its ground in Pokrovsk further east.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the locations are Mala Tokmachkaoch and Rivnopillia in the Zaporizhia region.

Mala Tokmatja is located southeast of the city of Zaporizhia and if it falls, it means that the nearby hub of Orichiv is threatened.

Rivnopillia, in turn, is located in eastern Zaporizhia, where Russian forces now control territory to the north, east, and south of the city of Khuljaipole.

Aerial photos published by the Russian Ministry of Defense show Russian soldiers waving Russian flags at bombed-out buildings in Rivnepillia.

Zaporizhia is one of four regions in addition to the occupied Crimean peninsula that Russia claims to have annexed, but none of the regions is entirely under Russian control.

Kyiv has not commented on the information.
