The message about the prisoner exchange came from Moscow on Saturday. The exchange, which took place the same day, consisted of 246 Ukrainian soldiers who were taken as prisoners of war, in exchange for 246 Russian prisoners of war.
"As a good gesture, 31 wounded soldiers were handed over to Ukraine. Russia received 15 wounded Russian soldiers," the Russian Defense Ministry wrote in a statement. Several of the soldiers were, according to Russia, in urgent need of medical assistance.
Earlier in the week, the remains of over 900 fallen Ukrainian soldiers were handed over, according to Kyiv. The remains of fallen Russian soldiers were simultaneously handed over to Russian authorities.
