The exchange is to be another part of the agreement that the parties entered into in Istanbul at the beginning of June.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, Ukraine has handed over a "group of Russian soldiers" and Russia has "handed over a group of Ukrainian soldiers in return", reports AFP.
It is not announced how many soldiers have been exchanged.
Volodymyr Zelenskyj also announces that prisoners of war have been exchanged, but without announcing how many are involved.
"Our people are home. Most of them have been held in Russian captivity since 2022", he writes on X.
"Ukraine's goal is to free all our people from Russian captivity. I am grateful to everyone who helps make this possible."
