It was after Chinese Premier Li Qiang met Russian President Vladimir Putin that the countries said in a statement that they would "support each other's core issues and interests," the state-run Chinese news agency Xinhua reported, according to AFP.
"Both sides pointed out that destructive external interference is the main factor undermining stability on the Eurasian continent," the statement said.
China also said that it “opposes interference by foreign powers in Russia's internal affairs.”
